Budget Billing
The Budget Billing Plan is a budget
plan to help our residential customers level out their utility
bills throughout the year. Here in the Northwest, customers whose homes have
electric heat usually have higher electric bills in the winter. All of your Tacoma Public Utilities and
City of Tacoma utility services are included in your average payment.
The Budget Billing Plan is for
residential customers only. Any residential customer can
request Budget Billing at any time when their account balance is zero.
However, the residence must have 12 consecutive months history. If you are on a
bi-monthly billing cycle, the Budget Billing Plan changes your payments to monthly to help you with
your household budget. If you are on a monthly billing cycle, it can help level
out your payments throughout the year.
The Budget Billing Plan reviews and recalculates
your payment every fourth month and every eighth month, which means your payment may go up or down depending on
your actual electricity and water use. With the Budget Billing Plan you pay the
calculated average amount for 11 months. Then in the 12th, or "true up"
month, you will either owe or receive a credit. After that, the cycle
starts again, using the previous 12 months' bills to recalculate your average
for the next 11 months.
We will continue to read your electric
and water meters as usual and you will receive information on your actual use so
you will know how much electricity and water you are using.
Advantages:
- Easier to budget monthly expenses.
- Includes all City of
Tacoma utility services.
- Amount adjusted every four months to
reflect electricity and water use, rate changes, etc.
- Continue to read electric and water
meters and provide information on actual use.
- Will calculate average monthly
payment before you sign up.
If you are interested in this program,
call our Customer Service Office at 253-502-8600 to see if this plan will work
for you. The Customer Service representative can calculate your Budget Billing Plan
payment for you before you decide to sign up for this service.
