Pinecone Birdfeeder

A fun way to feed your feathered friends.

Rating: EASY
Adult Supervision Required? NO

What you need

  • Pinecone - medium size
  • Yarn, hemp or string - 10 inches long
  • Peanut butter - about 2 Tablespoons
  • Birdseed - about 1/2 cup
  • Butter knife
  • Small bowl

How to make it

  1. Take a pinecone and tie the yarn, hemp or string around the top part. Secure it tightly so it can hold the weight of a bird. (Figure 1)

  2. Use the butter knife to spread peanut butter all over the pinecone. Make sure you cover all the parts of the pinecone with peanut butter as good as possible. (Figure 2)

  3. Pour birdseed into the small bowl. Roll the peanut butter covered pinecone around in the seeds to coat the pinecone entirely. (Figure 3)

  4. Hang your finished pinecone in a tree. Make sure it is on a strong enough branch that can hold it, plus a few birds. (Top picture)

  5. Enjoy watching the birds come to eat their snack. It may take a few days for the birds to find their treat, but once they do, they'll eat it all.

  6. Refill the pinecone with peanut butter and birdseed as often as necessary.
