Twig Frame
A creative way to frame that special picture.
Rating: MEDIUM Adult Supervision Required? YES (if
glue gun is used)
What you need
- Bundle of small twigs (we used 12 twigs)
- Hemp or twine
- Hot glue gun (optional - must have adult supervision)
- Glue
How to make it
- Decide how large of a frame you want to make. Break all your twigs
about 2 inches longer than the size of picture you want to frame. For
example, our frame holds a picture that is 3 x 3 inches so our twigs are
each about 5 inches long. it is okay if your twigs are not all the same
length.
- Bundle 3 twigs together to make an "edge". Lay down the twigs for
the top and bottom edges of your frame first, then lay the bundles for
the sides down.
- Leave about 1 inch hanging over each corner of your bundles. Adjust
the twigs to fit how you want the frame to look. Look carefully to where
the twigs crisscross over each other.
- Have an adult help you heat up the hot glue gun. You can also use
regular glue instead.
- Carefully lift the bundle of twigs from one side of your frame up,
remembering where the twigs crisscrossed each other.
- Add a generous amount of glue to the places where the twigs would
cross over the top and bottom edges. Replace the bundle of twigs on top
of the glue.
- Repeat with the other side.
- Allow the glue to dry.
- Once the glue is dry, take the twine and wrap it around one corner
in the shape of an "X". Tie off the pieces in the back of the frame.
Repeat with each corner.
- Cut your picture to fit the frame and glue to the back of the
frame. Once the glue is dry, your picture is ready to display! You can
also attach a string to hang your frame on the wall.
